Stock Market ends in the red; Sensex loses 500 points
The Indian stock market ended in the red on Tuesday, with the Nifty falling below the 23,900-mark and the Sensex dropping nearly 500 points.
At the close, the Sensex was up 188 points, or 0.23%, at 83,570.35, while the Nifty 50 settled at 25,694.35, up 29 points, or 0.11%.

The stock market on Friday snapped its two-day losing run, with the Nifty slipping below the 25,700 mark. Shares of IT heavyweights, including Infosys, TCS, and Tech Mahindra, were among the leading gainers.
At the close, the Sensex was up 188 points, or 0.23%, at 83,570.35, while the Nifty 50 settled at 25,694.35, up 29 points, or 0.11%.

Among sectors, the Nifty IT index spiked 3.34%, while the Nifty Bank and PSU Bank indices rose 0.86% and 1.16%, respectively. The key ones on the losing end were Nifty Pharma (down 1.28%), Healthcare (down 1.15%), and Consumer Durables (down 1.11%).

On the Nifty, the top gainers were Infosys (up 5.58%), Tech Mahindra (up 5.26%), Wipro (up 2.54%), HCL Tech (up 2.41%), and TCS (up 2.34%).
Over 1,850 stocks advanced, while over 2,350 declined on the BSE.
Around 84 stocks hit their 52-week highs, while as many as 260 stocks hit their 52-week lows on the BSE.
Those on the highs included SBI, Axis Bank, and Tata Steel, while the lows included ITC, Tube Investments of India, and Dixon Technologies (India).
Shares of real estate companies rose in trade. Prestige Estates was the top gainer, rising nearly 2%, while Macrotech Developers (Lodha), Oberoi Realty, and Godrej Properties each rose around around 1%.
Shares of oil marketing companies (OMC) jumped in trade as the Hindustan Petroleum Corporation Limited (HPCL) shares surged nearly 4%, Bharat Petroleum Corporation Limited (BPCL) shares rose over 3%, and Indian Oil Corporation (IOC) shares gained around 2%.
FIIs continued to be net cash sellers to the tune of Rs 21,706.27 crore as of Jan’26 (Till date).
On a weekly basis, both the indices posted flat returns, whereas the BSE midcap and smallcap indices witnessed a correction.
