Railways operating record-breaking 9,111 trips during summer season of 2024
This marks a substantial rise compared to the summer of 2023, where a total of 6,369 trips were offered.
The Indian Railways has increased the number of vacancies advertised by the Railway Recruitment Board following the extremely high number of applications for the posts advertised initially.
On 29 March, Railway Minister Piyush Goyal informed on Twitter that the country’s biggest government recruiter has vacancies in 20,000 additional posts taking the total number of vacancies to 1,10,000.
Goyal said that almost half of the additional vacancies will be filled in the Railway Protection Force (RPF) and the Railway Protection Special Force (RPSF).

“Opportunities in 1,10,000 jobs instead of 90,000 in Railways: Recruitment will be held for 9,000 vacancies in RPF and RPSF, and 10,000 in L1 and L2 posts,” the Union Minister tweeted.
Goyal said that the increase in the number of vacancies has made one of the world’s biggest recruitment drives even bigger.
Previously, the Indian Railways had received over 2 crore applications for the 90,000 posts advertised under RRB 2018. This means that over 200 people applied for a single post.
The 90,000 posts are in group C and group D. There are over 26,000 loco pilot and technicians posts and 62,907 Group D posts open for recruitment.
Reports say that the railways have received over 50 lakh online applications for assistant loco pilots and technicians jobs.
Given the magnitude and the sheer scale of the test that is being conducted, the candidates will reportedly be given a window to check their answers after the completion of the exams and after the results are declared to maintain transparency.
Reports say that around 50 per cent of the seats will be reserved for women.
The online applications will close on 31 March 2018. The examinations are scheduled to be held in April or May 2018 in 15 languages: Hindi, English, Urdu, Bengali, Punjabi, Gujarati, Kannada, Konkani, Assamese, Malayalam, Manipuri, Marathi, Odia, Tamil and Telugu.
