Assam CM denies Chakma-Hajong relocation amid citizenship discussions
There are more than 67,000 Chakma and Hajong tribals residing in Arunachal Pradesh who are not eligible for permanent resident certificates or citizenship in the state.
A 31-year-old youth in South Kolkata committed suicide today allegedly due to the fear of CAA. As claimed by the Trinamul Congress, the man ended his life following the fear of the CAA and NRC. The information was shared by the ruling party on its social media handle today with a statement.
The youth, identified as Debashis Sengupta was found hanging in his relative’s house at Subhasgram. The 31-year-old was rushed to Sonarpur Rural Hospital, where the doctors declared him brought-dead. According to the kin of the deceased, the youth was allegedly living in fear of CAA and NRC for the last few days and was apprehensive of losing citizenship.
Sharing the incident over social media, the ruling party’s X-handle read, “PM @narendramodi is out for blood and he will stop at nothing. Let this be on your conscience, Modiji!”

Party’s national general secretary, Abhishek Banerjee ‘expressed his serious concern in connection with this issue,” said the post.
TMC also sent a five-member delegation that visited the family of the youth today.
