With an increase in the crowd of passengers during Kali Puja, the Sealdah Division under, the Eastern Railway has to change the platform for Naihati local trains during the peak festive period.

The authorities have decided to handle the local EMUs of Naihati from platform number five and six instead of platform number one of Sealdah station between 20 October and 24 October.

As a huge crowd of suburban passengers commute in this route during the Puja period, the divisional railway authorities have also made arrangements for additional special services during night time on the festive day. According to the railway officials, the Puja special night services would be operated on 20 October, for Naihati and Barasat. From 20 October to 24 October, Naihati locals would not be handled at platform number one after 1 p.m. Instead, the local trains to and fro Naihati would be taken at platforms 5 and 6.

On account of the festival, the railways announced to operate all suburban services, including six AC locals as per the schedule of weekdays. Also, all the EMU specials are to have stoppages at all stations en route, including flag and halt stations while the ticket booking counters at Sealdah stations would be kept operational on a round-the-clock basis to cater to the extra rush of passengers.

Apart from this, the divisional railway has also arranged special local EMUs on the intervening night of 20 and 21 October in four routes connecting Sealdah to various suburban sections. The four routes include local EMU trains between Sealdah and Dankuni, Sealdah and Barasat, Sealdah and Ranaghat and Sealdah and Baruipur railway stations.

As informed by the divisional railway manager of Sealdah, Rajeev Saxena, the divisional officers would be monitoring the situations during the festive period intensely. If the situation demands, the Sealdah Division has also made arrangements to run additional local trains.
