Prime Minister Narendra Modi will flag off a new train, dedicate and inaugurate some other projects for north Bengal from Siliguri on 9 March during his public meeting before the forthcoming Lok Sabha polls.

Central government officials, especially associated with railway and road transport and highways (MoRTH) are preparing to make proper arrangements here.

The Prime Minister is scheduled to attend his political programme at Kawakhali in Siliguri on 9 March around 4pm, the BJP sources said.

The chairman and CEO, Railway Board and secretary MoRTH have jointly invited dignitaries here to watch Prime Minister’s official programme to be held in Siliguri at 5.30pm on Saturday.

According to them, Governor Dr C V Ananda Bose, chief minister Mamata Banerjee and railways minister Ashwini Vaishnaw will be present.

According to official sources, PM Modi will flag off a new DEMU train service from Siliguri to Radhikapur in North Dinajpur.

PM Mr Modi will inaugurate four-lanes of Ghoshpukur in Siliguri to Dhupguri in Jalpaiguri section of national highway 31 D (new NH-27) and four-lane of Islampur Bypass of NH-31 (new NH-27).

The PM will also dedicate some railway projects like automatic block signalling in Ambari Falakata in Jalpaiguri to Aluabari in North Dinajpur including Electronic interlocking in New Jalpaiguri.

Other projects are electrification of Barsoi in Bihar to Radhikapur in North Dinajpur, Eklakhi in Malda to Balurghat in South Dinajpur, from Siliguri to Alipurduar Junction and Samuktala via Sevoke and electrification works of Raninagar in Jalpaiguri to Haldibari in Cooch Behar.
