West Burdwan district is the latest in the list of deactivated Aadhaar cards.

The Aadhaar cards of eleven people have been deactivated so far in Egaro Miles area in Kanksha near Durgapur.

S Ponnambalam, district magistrate of West Burdwan said that he is gathering information and will talk to the people.

All these people belonged to the Matua community. All of them have also received letters through the post offices stating that their Aadhaar card link has been deactivated.

Asha Biswas, a first student of Kabi Joydeb College in Illambazar in Birbhum district could not fill up her examination form as her Aadhaar card link has been deactivated.

“I want to study further and have no knowledge how. The college told me that my Aadhaar card link is deactivated. If I can’t fill up the online form then I will not be unable to sit for the exams, my career will be ruined,” she said.

Bhabani Bhattacharya, sabhapati of Kanksa panchayat samity said that throughout the state, the central government is trying to create a fear and panic about NRC and CAA before the polls. “Our party will start a major agitation if their Aadhaar cards are not reactivated immediately. Already yesterday the CM Mamata Banerjee has directed the chief secretary to set up a portal and TMC is in touch with them and taking necessary measures,” he added.

Mandal president of BJP, Rajib Roy said that they have informed the local MP Surinder Singh Ahluwalia and urged him to intervene.

The CM had said yesterday that in East Burdwan, Birbhum, North and South 24-Parganas and in North Bengal the Aadhaar card link of several people had been deactivated in the past few days. She had assured that the state government will provide all necessary support.
