Gearing up before the arrival of the monsoons, the sewerage and drainage department of the Kolkata Municipal Corporation has decided to procure 110 bucket machines.

The decision, as informed by sources, comes following a meeting of the members-mayor-in-council at the KMC headquarters today. The machines, as informed by sources, are to be bought at the cost of about 10 crore.

Notably, to overcome the issue of waterlogging, the civic body is setting up pumping stations in various corners of the city. The state government had sanctioned a plan for setting up a pumping station at Rishikesh Park. With a go ahead received at the MMiC meeting today, the KMC is now planning to set up the pumping station at Rishikesh Park, which is to be developed at the cost of Rs 66 crore, according to sources. Apart from this, the civic body has also decided to improve the drainage system in Wards 112 and 113 by laying underground sewerage lines at different lateral roads within the two wards.
