In a shocking incident on Monday, a youth in Ward 6 of South Dum Dum Municipality met an untimely death under suspicious circumstances, prompting the police to initiate a murder investigation based on the family’s complaint.

The accused, including the husband of the local representative for Ward 6, Trinamul Congress leader Abhi Debnath, are now under scrutiny. The victim, identified as Nayan Saha (25), was initially rescued in critical condition on Monday morning and rushed to Dum Dum Municipality Hospital and later to R G Kar Medical College Hospital. However, he succumbed to his injuries later last night. The family alleges that the accused had recorded the incident on their mobile phones.

No arrests have been made yet, and the police are taking necessary steps to nab the culprits. Nayan, a former student of higher secondary, had pursued hotel management after graduation and worked for an online supplies company presently. After returning home on that fateful day, Nayan’s father Nibash Saha and mother Shefali, lodged a murder complaint against the accused. Family sources reveal that Nayan’s elder brother, Nintu Saha, a TMC activist, claimed that the accused had a long-standing grudge against Nayan, exacerbated by political differences. Local sources report that Nintu had been inactive in politics since the last municipal elections but was provoked by the accused during the incident. The family further alleges that Nayan was brutally beaten, causing severe injuries on his head. Despite the political implications and calls for police intervention from Trinamul Congress leaders, the local Trinamul leader, Sukant Sensharma, emphasized the need for a thorough police investigation and refrained from involving politics in the tragic incident.
