Gaudiya Vaishnava Association, an association of monks of Sri Chaitanya Mahaprabhu order, constructed Shree Shree Gaur–Nitai Temple at Sreenathpur in Mayapur of Nadia district with the aim of propagating the humanistic spiritual philosophy of Sri Gauranga Mahaprabhu that upholds equality, love and devotion beyond the barriers of caste and creed.

According to Radharaman Das, spokesperson ISKCON from the of the Gaudiya Vaishnava Association, the principal objective behind establishing the temple is to create a centre dedicated to promoting universal devotion and compassion while addressing social discrimination. “Sri Chaitanya Mahaprabhu’s teachings emphasised the unity of humanity through devotion and mutual love. This temple has been conceived as a platform to highlight his philosophy and its relevance in the modern world,” he said.

The temple has been built under the guidance of Shreela Bhakti Swarup Tirtha Maharaj, a South Indian brahmin and a lifelong follower of the Gaudiya Vaishnava tradition. Radharaman Das noted that the spiritual leader has spent his entire life adhering to Sri Chaitanya’s teachings and has travelled extensively across the globe to spread the message of Chaitanya Mahaprabhu’s inclusive human dharma. The newly inaugurated temple is located close to the site traditionally believed to be the maternal home of Sri Chaitanya Mahaprabhu, adding to its spiritual significance. Sri Chaitanya’s religious movement is widely regarded as a revolutionary social and spiritual reform that challenged prevailing superstitions and entrenched social hierarchies of the time. His teachings sought to guide people towards single-minded devotion to God and compassion towards fellow human beings.
