Ahead of the Assembly elections in Bengal, another reshuffle has taken place in the state police administration, with four IPS officers transferred.

The list includes the Superintendents of Police (SPs) of Alipurduar, Basirhat and Jangipur, along with a senior officer of the state intelligence wing.

According to a notification issued by the state home department, Alipurduar SP Umesh Ganpat has been transferred to the post of Senior Superintendent in the North Bengal unit of the West Bengal Intelligence Branch.

Arish Bilal, who was serving as Senior Superintendent in the Intelligence Branch, has been appointed SP of Basirhat police district.

Hossain Mehdi Rahman, who was SP of Basirhat, has been transferred as SP of Jangipur police district. And Amitkumar Sau, who was SP of Jangipur, has been posted as SP of Alipurduar.

The latest reshuffle follows a series of transfers carried out in recent weeks.

At the end of last month, 109 officers of inspector rank were transferred across the state.

As per the notification, the inspector-in-charge (IC) of Gangarampur police station in South Dinajpur was brought to the West Bengal Police’s Anti-Corruption Branch as an inspector.

The IC of Darjeeling Sadar police station, Shubhra Sanyal, was transferred to Kotwali police station in West Midnapore, while Rajkumar Sarkar, who was IC of Amdanga police station under Barasat Police Division, was posted as Circle Inspector of Nakashipara under Ranaghat Police Division.

Earlier, in the first week of January, 26 police officers were transferred in the state, including 23 IPS officers and three WBPS officers.
