Ex-MLA, author Jiban Mukhopadhyay passes away

Former Trinamul Congress MLA Jiban Mukhopadhyay passed away this morning after a brief illness.

Condoling his death, chief minister Mamata Banerjee wrote in her X-handle: “Saddened by the sudden demise of Jiban Mukhopadhyay, former MLA from Sonarpur and my “sohoyodda”, co-fighter. A reputed Professor and writer of text books, he was a popular man and a social worker with tenacity. My condolences to his family, friends and followers.”

Mr Mukhopadhyay was an erudite scholar and wrote several articles on Swami Vivekananda. He came in contact with the Ramakrishna movement from his college days. He took active part in social work and was immensely popular in his area.
