The deceased were identified as Sheikh Mohammed Murshed (57), an electrical engineer employed with the Steel Authority of India’s Durgapur Steel Plant, his wife Rozina, a homemaker, and their son, a software engineer working with a private firm in Pune, Maharashtra. The family resided in the SAIL Cooperative locality in City Centre, Durgapur.

According to neighbour Ranjan Tewari, Murshed and his wife were accompanying their son to Netaji Subhas Chandra Bose International Airport, as he was scheduled to fly to Mumbai later in the evening.

Murshed’s 80-year-old mother, Nasima, a former employee of the Durgapur Steel Plant, was inconsolable on receiving the news. “I lost my husband 30 years ago. Now I have lost my son, grandson and daughter-in-law. I am shattered,” she said.

The family originally hailed from Jangipur in Murshidabad district and had been settled in Durgapur for nearly six decades.
