Films to sensitise people on social issues
A seminar titled, Understanding Films: A Paradigm Shift was held at Women’s College Calcutta, today.
A treasure hunt on four wheels was held in the city to not only to help children with congenital heart ailments but also to generate an interest in the citizens to know more about the rich history the city holds. The Drive Hridaya Car Rally, organized by the Rotary Club of Calcutta Old City, in its fifth year, is a means to touch tender hearts of the less privileged.
The project has successfully funded 48 heart operations for these little superheroes. To add colour to this, they also released a collectors calendar, ‘Carnival’, featuring rare moments of celebrities with their favourite cars. Be it Kishore Kumar posing with the vintage car from Chalti Ka Naam Gadi, Amitabh Bachchan and Anil Kapoor posing with a big Rolls Royce, Satyajit Ray with his 1930 Chrysler, which he used in Abhijaan.
The calendar has Uttam Kumar posing with his favourite Morris, Dev Anand with a Chevrolet Flip Master, R D Burman in front of his Fiat or Mohd Rafi and his wife Bilquis Rafi seen with their Chevrolet Chevelle. Surojit Kala, chairman, Hridaya, said, “Our mission is to keep their tiny hearts beating strong, and in doing so, we aim to bring smiles to their faces by this fun-filled event. In India, 15.1 per cent children are born with the disorder.

We raise funds through cultural programmes and through a treasure hunt on wheels. We are also following Safe Drive, Save Life initiatives along with Kolkata Police. Through this treasure campaign we want the participants to also know the history of the city and a particular place. It is a family outing.”
In the last five years 48 kids were either operated upon or provided treatment for the heart ailment. A Birati-based 8-yearold, Bishal Saha, had joined the event on Sunday.
