TMC National General Secretary and MP Abhishek Banerjee today welcomed the Supreme Court’s order directing the Election Commission of India (ECI) to publish the names of the individuals who have been excluded from the electoral roll due to ‘logical discrepancies,’ found during the ongoing Special Intensive Revision (SIR) in West Bengal.

While speaking at a public rally in Barasat in North 24 Parganas district, the Trinamool Congress Lok Sabha MP referred to the apex court’s order as a defeat for the Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) PM Modi in court. He welcomed it as a victory of the people of Bengal.

Taking a dig at the BJP, he said that they will taste defeat in the elections as well in the coming days. He said that unlike Uttar Pradesh, Bihar, Madhya Pradesh, or Gujarat, the state of West Bengal never bows down to outsiders or lives in slavery.

Earlier today, SC issued directives to the poll body to publish the list of names to whom notices were sent for ‘logical discrepancies’ in the enumeration forms submitted by them. It ordered the ECI to ensure the verification process of documents or objections is done in a transparent manner. Around 1.25 crore persons have been put under the ‘logical discrepancies’ category, for mismatch in parents’ names, low age gap with parents, number of progeny of the cited parents more than six and so on.

The TMC MP highlighted that the directive from the SC shows its acceptance of the TMC’s demand to display the names in the ‘logical discrepancies’ category. He said that he, along with a delegation of TMC members, met Chief Election Commissioner Gyanesh Kumar on 31 December 2025 and suggested publication of the list of logical discrepancies.

TMC leader further said, “I am very happy today. The soil of North 24 Parganas is lucky for me; touching this soil means victory is certain.”
