The union minister of state for Women and Child Development Department, Debasree Chaudhuri, is all set to meet members of the West Dinajpur Chamber of Commerce (WDCC), a trade body of both North and South Dinajpur districts in their office in Raiganj tomorrow. Apart from felicitating her, WDCC members will put forth proposals for the development of railway connectivity in North Dinajpur district.

“We will felicitate her in our office tomorrow. We will also submit a proposal on railway connectivity and other development activities in the district. We will demand that she push for the introduction of a day-time Kolkata-bound train from Radhikapur very soon,” the General Secretary of the WDCC, Shankar Kundu, said.

“Work on the railway link between Buniadpur in South Dinajpur district and Kaliyaganj in North Dinajpur, which was approved around 12 years ago, is yet to begin. We will urge her to start the track construction work immediately,” he added

According to him, railway lines between Gazole in Malda and Raiganj, and between Dalkhola and Raiganj were also approved earlier, but work on these is also yet to begin.

“We want her to start the construction of the rail tracks soon. In addition, we will demand her to construct a road between Barsoi in Bihar and Raiganj and a rakepoint in Raiganj station for the sake of the development of the district,” Mr Kundu said.

The President of the North Dinajpur BJP committee, Nirmal Dam, said Miss Chaudhuri will visit Raiganj after becoming the minister for the second time tomorrow. “In the morning, she will have a meeting with our district BJP members. She will then meet the members of teachers’ organizations and social welfare organizations. In the afternoon, she will meet members of the West Dinajpur Chamber of Commerce,” Mr Dam said.
