To ensure safe and hassle-free travel, the Asansol Division of Eastern Railway has launched a personal baggage weight check drive at the entry points of Asansol station using portable digital weighing scales. The initiative aims to enforce prescribed baggage allowances, prevent delays during boarding and deboarding, and raise awareness among passengers about carrying only the permitted quantity of luggage.
The prescribed baggage limits for passengers are as follows:

AC 2-Tier (2A) – up to 50 kg
AC 3-Tier (3A) – up to 40 kg
Sleeper Class (SL) – up to 40 kg
Second Sitting (2S) – up to 35 kg
This regulation will remain in effect throughout the year.
Railway staff are checking passenger baggage, imposing penalties in cases of excess luggage, and guiding travellers to comply with the norms. Introduced ahead of the festive rush, the drive forms part of a sustained effort to maintain discipline and ensure smooth operations during peak travel periods.
Plans are underway to extend similar baggage checks to other stations across the division. Passengers are requested to cooperate with railway staff, adhere to baggage regulations, and plan their journeys accordingly. The initiative reflects Asansol Division’s commitment to delivering safe, efficient, and comfortable travel experiences for all passengers across its network.
