Milind Deouskar, General Manager of Eastern Railway has taken over the additional charge of General Manager of Metro Railway on Monday.

The Indian Railways has been closely monitoring incidents of stone pelting on trains across various railway zones. According to official data, during the period between July and December 2025, a total of 1,698 cases of stone pelting were registered across the Indian Railways network, leading to the arrest of 665 persons. The highest number of cases was reported from the Northern Railway with 363 such incidents followed by East Central Railway having 219 cases, South Central Railway registering 140 and North Central Railway recording 126 cases. The Western Railway and Southern Railway registered 116 and 108 cases respectively.

The other zones where incidents of stone pelting were also reported during the period include Central Railway 96, North Frontier Railway 67, South Western Railway 80, West Central Railway 77, East Coast Railway 50, South East Central Railway 51, North Western Railway 55, North Eastern Railway 25 and Konkan Railway 3.

Notably, incidents of stone pelting were seen in the Eastern Railway and South Eastern Railway as well. As per the statistics received, 71 cases were registered in the Eastern Railway while 51 such incidents were recorded in the South Eastern Railway.
Following such incidents, the Indian Railways has intensified surveillance measures and increased patrolling in vulnerable sections. These efforts have resulted in swift identification and arrest of offenders as the national; carrier adopted a zero-tolerance approach towards acts that compromise passenger safety.
The national carrier has made an appeal to citizens to act as responsible stakeholders, extend cooperation to railway authorities and help ensure a safe, secure and uninterrupted travel experience.
