Gujarat court acquits 28 accused, convicts 49 in 2008 serial blasts

As many as 77 accused faced trial in the case, after one of them turned approver. Four more accused were arrested later, but their trial has not yet commenced. Out of the 28 acquittal, 16 were given a benefit of doubt, while 12 were pronounced innocent due to lack of evidence.

Sri Lanka to import 400,000 metric tonnes of rice

As many as 300,000 metric tons of rice are expected to be imported from India, and a further 100,000 tonnes from Myanmar in order to bring down the rice prices artificially inflated by several large rice millers, Gilma Dahanayake, additional secretary of the ministry of trade, was quoted as saying by the state-owned Daily News newspaper on Tuesday.
