After Suvendu’s ‘think 25 times’ warning, cops visit Humayun’s place, summon him
Humayun Kabir has claimed that he was not at home when police personnel visited his place and is not aware about the notices issued to him.
Aam Janata Unnayan Party (AJUP) MLA Humayun Kabir appeared before the Saktipur police in West Bengal’s Murshidabad district for the second time in connection with a criminal case over his controversial “satabhanga” (a severe, bone-breaking beating) remarks on Sunday.
Kabir reached Saktipur police station at around 11 a.m. in compliance with a second notice issued by the investigating officers.

His appearance marked the latest development in an ongoing probe into an allegedly provocative speech delivered by the Rejinagar MLA at an AJUP meeting held in Murshidabad’s Rejinagar on June 26.

The legislator has been under the scanner since the speech, in which he allegedly made inflammatory remarks targeting the BJP following which several criminal complaints were lodged at both Rejinagar and Shaktipur police stations.
Initially police served Kabir with a notice on July 3, directing him to appear before Saktipur police for questioning but he did not comply with the summons.
However, a day later, he appeared before Rejinagar police, where he was questioned for nearly four hours but the problem escalated when he struck a defiant note, claiming that if he was arrested, “another 100 to 120 people” were prepared to court arrest voluntarily in support of him.
His remarks were widely seen as an attempt to rally party workers amid mounting legal pressure.
According to police sources, investigators were not satisfied with the MLA’s responses during the initial round of interrogation.
As a result, Rejinagar police issued another notice directing him to appear again on July 14.
Kabir complied with the summons and underwent another marathon interrogation lasting more than four hours.
The AJUP legislator however, lashed out at the investigating agency, alleging that the police were functioning as “agents of the ruling party” rather than conducting an impartial investigation.
He also questioned the repeated summonses and accused the administration of attempting to harass him for political reasons.
Later on, the same day, Saktipur police served him with a fresh notice, asking him to appear for another round of questioning.
Acting on that notice, Kabir reported to the police station on Sunday, where investigators continued to examine his role and the circumstances surrounding the June 26 meeting.
The controversy surrounding Kabir’s speech has also resonated in the West Bengal Assembly too.
During a recent session, West Bengal Chief Minister Suvendu Adhikari referred to the MLA’s remarks and warned that Kabir would be taught a “lesson,” escalating the political confrontation over the issue.
Meanwhile police have already arrested three AJUP leaders who allegedly organised the June 26 meeting at Rejinagar where the controversial speech was delivered.
Investigators are examining whether the organisers played a role in facilitating or encouraging the allegedly inflammatory statements made during the event.
Officials said the investigation remains underway and that further legal action has not been ruled out.
