In a relief to the victims of the train and pool car mishap at Murshidabad yesterday, three students, who were admitted with injuries at Berhampur Medical College and Hospital were declared out of danger with stable health conditions by the doctors today.

Five persons, including four school students and a local resident were killed yesterday after a local train hit a car carrying school children and a bicycle at a level crossing gate near Karnasubarna station in Murshidabad district.

Four more, who had received injuries in the accident were being treated at the hospital.

The incident occurred when the level crossing had been closed for the passage of trains in both directions. After train number 13431 passed in the Up direction, the gate was still open. The school van and the bicyclist, attempting to cross the level crossing gate, were struck by the Nimtita-Katwa Passenger train approaching in the Down direction.

As learnt from the Eastern Railway office, a total nine persons had been injured in the accident.

“It is a great relief that the three students, receiving treatment at the hospital, are in better health now. They have come out of danger and are in stable condition. The condition of the driver whose injuries are more grave, is still serious but not critical,” informed a railway official.
