Union Minister Jayant Chaudhary on Thursday described Ludhiana as one of India’s leading industrial centres, saying the city’s strong MSME ecosystem is creating employment opportunities for young people by connecting skilled students with local industries.
Chaudhary was speaking at a programme held at a government Industrial Training Institute (ITI) in Ludhiana, where appointment letters were distributed to around 1,000 students in the presence of Rajya Sabha MP Dr. Vikramjit Sahney.

Highlighting the role of the manufacturing sector in employment generation, the Union Minister said Ludhiana’s micro, small and medium enterprises (MSMEs) continue to offer significant opportunities for skilled youth. “Ludhiana is among the country’s top industrial cities. Students are increasingly getting linked with local MSMEs, which have immense potential to generate employment and strengthen the economy,” he said.
Referring to infrastructure development, Chaudhary said Prime Minister Narendra Modi would dedicate five redeveloped railway stations in Punjab, adding that the upgraded facilities are part of the Centre’s efforts to modernise public infrastructure in the state.
Addressing the gathering, Sahney said the initiative was aimed at creating quality employment within Punjab and reducing the migration of skilled youth abroad after completing their education.
“Our objective is to ensure that young people find meaningful employment opportunities in Punjab itself. Today, around 1,000 students are receiving appointment letters under this initiative, which will not only benefit them but also provide skilled manpower to the state’s industrial sector,” Sahney said.
He expressed confidence that closer collaboration between technical institutions and industry would help enhance the competitiveness of Ludhiana’s manufacturing sector and strengthen its presence in global markets.
When asked about political developments, Sahney declined to comment, saying he was present only to discuss the employment initiative and the programme organised for the students.
