WATCH: Debt-ridden farmer in Maharashtra pulls plough after ox’s demise, says didn’t get any financial aid

Sotya Roma Vasave is a resident of Gaman village in Akkalkuwa taluka.

After the death of his ox, a debt-ridden tribal farmer in Maharashtra’s Nandurbar district yoked himself to a plough due to major delay in receiving financial assistance from the government to get a replacement.

The farmer has been identified as Sotya Roma Vasave, a resident of Gaman village in Akkalkuwa taluka.

As per reports, Vasave earlier applied for ex-gratia assistance after his ox died. Later on, officials from the Veterinary Department are said to have conduced an inspection and post-mortem. However, the farmer has claimed that even after they submitted the report, he has not received any financial aid yet due to administrative delays.

Since he was unable to stop farming during the sowing season, Vasave decided to pull the plough himself, while his wife guided it through the field.

The incident has drawn attention towards the alleged lapses in the implementation of welfare schemes for tribal farmers.
