England will take on Norway in the quarter-finals of the FIFA World Cup 2026 at the Miami Stadium on Sunday (IST), with a place in the last four at stake.

While Thomas Tuchel’s England entered the tournament among the favourites, Norway have emerged as one of its biggest surprise packages. A victory would send either side into the semi-finals, where Spain and France have already booked their spots, with the remaining berth to be decided between Argentina and Switzerland.

Norway are enjoying their best-ever FIFA World Cup campaign after reaching the quarter-finals for the first time. Ståle Solbakken’s men progressed from Group I before scripting memorable knockout victories over Côte d’Ivoire and five-time champions Brazil.

Captain Martin Ødegaard has orchestrated play from midfield, while Erling Haaland has delivered when it has mattered most. The Manchester City striker scored a dramatic late winner against Côte d’Ivoire in the Round of 32 before netting twice against Brazil to propel Norway into uncharted territory.

England, meanwhile, topped Group L before overcoming two stern knockout tests. Harry Kane’s late brace rescued the Three Lions from an early exit against DR Congo in the Round of 32, while Jude Bellingham inspired a 3-2 victory over co-hosts Mexico in the Round of 16 despite England playing much of the second half with ten men.

The quarter-final will mark the first-ever World Cup meeting between the two nations. Their last international encounter came in a friendly at Wembley in 2014, when England edged Norway 1-0 through Wayne Rooney’s penalty.
