In alleviate the pain of commuters of Kolkata’s Behala area from the persistent waterlogging especially during the monsoon months, Bengal Minister of State (MoS) Indranil Khan shot off a letter to state Irrigation Minister Arup Kumar Das urging him to immediately restore and revamp the Churial, Sonamukhi and Shuti canals in the area to prevent this problem.
The Behala Paschim MLA pointed out in his letter that there is huge deposition of mud and solid waste in those canals due to which water outsourcing from the drains is not being effectively carried out, leading to backflow from these canals leading to waterloggin in his constituency.

Behala and its surrounding areas are prone to waterlogging every monsoon, making lives difficult for residents in the area, as well as coummuters.
Within hours of an inspection by the state irrigation minister, his department has halted trial traffic movement along the newly-constructed causeway across the Durgapur barrage on the Damodar river today.
