A man has been arrested in the Tiljala area of east Kolkata for allegedly raping his daughter’s friend. Police confirmed the arrest on Wednesday night, following a complaint filed by the victim’s family. Her medical examination and statement are currently underway.

How she ended up at his home

The victim had been friends with the accused’s daughter for a long time and knew the family well. Due to problems at her own home, she had been staying at her friend’s residence for a few days.

Why she stayed silent

The young woman did not tell anyone at first. Police said fear and shame kept her quiet. She also alleged that the accused threatened to kill her if she spoke about what happened.

The abuse reportedly continued after the threat. It was only after her health began to suffer that she opened up, first to her family and then to her friend.

The complaint and arrest

Following this, she filed a written complaint at Tiljala police station. Acting on her statement, police arrested the accused on Wednesday night. A case has been registered against him, with charges including rape under relevant sections of law.

Investigation underway

Tiljala police are now investigating the case. Officials said all aspects are being examined closely. The victim’s statement and other evidence collected during the probe will be used to verify the allegations.

Police have declined to share further details at this stage.
