According to official sources, the Chief Minister has decided to monitor the investigation personally and directed the police to ensure that every person involved in the crime is brought to justice.
Police have so far arrested three accused, Anand Sardar, Prabhas Mondal and Dibakar Sardar, in connection with the alleged gang rape and murder.
A separate investigation is also underway into the death of a youth who was allegedly beaten to death by an enraged mob following the recovery of the body.
Before his visit, the Chief Minister had appealed for calm and had spoken to the victim’s family over the telephone. On Monday, he assured them that all their demands would be considered.
Sources said Adhikari sought a detailed briefing on the progress of the investigation, forensic findings, collection of electronic evidence, law and order, and allegations regarding the police response immediately after the incident. He reportedly instructed officers to maintain transparency throughout the investigation and submit regular updates.
Addressing reporters after the meeting, Sonarpur Dakshin MLA Roopa Ganguly said the Chief Minister had made it clear that no guilty person would be spared.
“He heard every detail of the incident from us and instructed the police to ensure exemplary punishment for all those responsible so that such crimes are never repeated,” Ganguly said.
