Amid several delegations from political representatives visiting the Baruipur rape-murder victim’s family on Tuesday, the rebel factions of the Trinamool Congress (TMC), both legislative and the parliamentary level, also followed suit.

The visit by Bengal Leader of Opposition Ritabrata Banerjee and Lok Sabha MPs Saayoni Ghosh and Kakoli Ghosh Dastidar from the Nationalist Citizens Party of India (NCPI) came a day after a delegation from the Kalighat unit of the party including senior leaders like Dola Sen and Pratima Mandal met the bereaved family.

Former state Minister Chandrima Bhattacharya, who recently left the camp of former chief minister Mamata Banerjee, was also part of the team.

On reaching Baruipur, the delegation initially faced restrictions from the police before being allowed to proceed to the victim’s residence. The leaders later met the family and held discussions with the victim’s father.

Speaking to reporters after the meeting, Barasat MP Kakoli Ghosh Dastidar said the delegation had visited the family on the instructions of Chief Minister Suvendu Adhikari.

“We have come here following the chief minister’s directions. The accused must receive the maximum punishment under the law. At the same time, effective measures must be taken to ensure that such heinous crimes do not recur,” she said.

The MP also renewed the demand for the immediate implementation of the Aparajita Bill, which was passed by the West Bengal Assembly in September 2025 following the RG Kar hospital rape and murder case.

The legislation seeks to introduce stricter punishment for rape and murder of women and children. However, the Bill is yet to come into force as it is awaiting the Governor’s assent.

Meanwhile, Indian Secular Front (ISF) MLA Naushad Siddique also visited the victim’s residence on Tuesday. Naushad interacted with the victim’s family and expressed solidarity with them.

The Baruipur case has triggered widespread outrage across the state after the body of the minor girl was recovered from a pond on Sunday. Police have arrested three persons, including the prime accused, and constituted a Special Investigation Team (SIT) to probe the incident.
