With the situation in the Middle East showing signs of stability following the ceasefire agreement between Iran and the US, the Delhi government has withdrawn its work-from-home arrangement for its employees.

The Rekha Gupta-led government had introduced a two-day work-from-home schedule for government staff as part of a broader national effort to reduce fuel consumption. The decision followed Prime Minister Narendra Modi’s appeal in May for fuel conservation amid the conflict in the Middle East.

As part of the initiative, the government sought to curb petrol and diesel usage in the national capital by modifying office hours and reducing official fuel consumption. It also cut fuel allocations for government vehicles by 20%, while several ministers downsized their convoys.

Under the order, government employees were allowed to work from home on Wednesdays and Saturdays. With the directive now withdrawn, staff will resume attending offices on all working days. Office timings have also reverted to the previous schedule of 10 am to 6.30 pm.

The office timings of the Municipal Corporation of Delhi (MCD), however, will continue to remain unchanged at 8.30 am to 5 pm.

Announcing the measures in May, Chief Minister Rekha Gupta said the 90-day campaign aimed to reduce fuel consumption, encourage greater use of public transport, and promote Made-in-India products amid energy-related uncertainties arising from the Middle East conflict.
