What Sunita said about Govinda’s affairs
As part of the premiere, host Farah Khan read out headlines featuring Sunita. One of them stated: “I want a son like Govinda, not a husband.”
When asked to elaborate on the headline, Sunita spoke directly about Govinda’s affairs. She said in Hindi: “Pyaar mein toh aapko har cheez bardasht karna chahiye. Chichi ne life mein itne affairs kiye, chalo hero heroine mein toh hote hi hain. Toh mujhe lagta hai itne saal jo maine Chichi ke saath nibhaya hai, I think uske jaisa beta hona chahiye.”
In English, this translates to: “In love, you should be able to tolerate everything. Govinda had many affairs in his life. Well, heroes and heroines do such things. I think since I stood by him for so many years, I deserve to have a son like him.”
The shooting reference and Sunita’s response
Co-host Riteish Deshmukh then read out a second headline referencing a past incident. The headline in Hindi stated: “Jab tak pati patni saath ho tab tak ankhiyon se goli maare. Par jab koi third party aa jaye to ghutnon par goli maare.”
This was a reference to the 2008 incident in which Govinda accidentally shot himself in the leg with his own licensed revolver.
Sunita responded with a pointed remark directed at Govinda. She said: “Sun rahe ho Chichi toh sun lena bhaiya, kyunki ghutno pe goli tabhi lagti hai jab koi life mein aa jaati hai.”
In English: “If you are listening, then listen carefully. A bullet only hits you in the knee when someone comes into your life.”
Sunita then addressed the rumours that had circulated at the time of the shooting, saying she was not in Mumbai when the incident occurred. “Main toh Bombay mein thi nahi, kitne logon ne bola ki maine hi maar diya. Main toh Khatu Shyam mein thi,” she said. This translates to: “I was not even in Mumbai. So many people said I was the one who shot him. I was at Khatu Shyam.”
Govinda and Sunita’s marriage
Govinda and Sunita Ahuja got married in 1987. They kept their marriage private for approximately two years after the wedding. The marriage was made public only after the birth of their daughter, Tina Ahuja.
The couple also has a son named Yashvardhan Ahuja.
