The southwest monsoon is expected to arrive in Uttar Pradesh about 10 days later, according to the India Meteorological Department (IMD).
Normally, the monsoon reaches the state around June 18, but the IMD now expects it to arrive by the end of June. Earlier forecasts had indicated a delay of only three to four days.

The delayed onset has led to a significant rainfall deficit across the state. Between June 1 and June 23, Uttar Pradesh received only 25.7 mm of rainfall against the normal average of 53.7 mm, a shortfall of 52%.
Of the state’s 75 districts, 37 recorded a large rainfall deficit, while 17 reported below-normal rainfall. Kaushambi district received no rainfall during the period.
The IMD said the monsoon is likely to advance over the North Arabian Sea, Gujarat, Maharashtra, Chhattisgarh, and parts of Madhya Pradesh within the next two to three days. It is expected to reach Jharkhand, Bihar, and parts of Uttar Pradesh within the following three to four days.
At present, the northern limit of the monsoon passes through Wardha, Raipur, Daltonganj, and Motihari.
The monsoon has gained momentum over the past 48 hours, covering the remaining parts of Maharashtra, Telangana, Odisha, Chhattisgarh, Jharkhand, and Bihar. It also reached Mumbai on Tuesday.
