West Bengal Chief Minister Suvendu Adhikari arrived at the spot of the Taratala warehouse collapse on Wednesday afternoon and expressed his condolences for the families of those who lost their lives in the incident.
Speaking to reporters he assured that the resuce operations are going on smoothly and several departments have been roped in for the efforts.

“NDRF, Army, SDRF, Police, Fire Department are all together working here. 21 people have been rescued. Three people have lost their lives. SSKM Hospital is working. Around 12-18 people are trapped inside. They have come in contact with the Indian Army,” Adhikari said speaking to reporters.
In a social media post, the Chief Minister expressed his sorrow, saying, “Deeply pained and saddened by the tragic loss of lives due to the collapse of an under-construction warehouse building near Brace Bridge in Taratala, where several workers got trapped beneath the debris.”
Giving an update on the rescue operation, he said, “So far 21 people have been pulled out of the collapsed structure,” adding that 18 were injured and three were killed.
Expressing his regrets, he said, “Words fail to express my sorrow for the precious lives lost in this tragedy. My deepest condolences go out to their bereaved families.”
Assuring all sorts of support from his government he said that that the rescue operation is currently underway and that the Army, National Disaster Response Force (NDRF), State Disaster Response Force (SDRF), Kolkata Police and Kolkata Municipal Corporation (KMC) are jointly conducting the rescue operations.
Adhikari informed that he has instructed the Urban Development and Municipal Affairs (UDMA) Department to closely coordinate the entire operation, adding that Minister of State Indranil Khan is present at the site and is supervising the ongoing rescue efforts.
The traggic incident took place near the Brace Bridge in Taratala, close to the bus depot in which at least three were dead and 18 were injured.
Police and disaster management teams are working on a war footing with the help of bulldozers and gas cutters.
Local sources indicate that construction work at the tea warehouse next to the transport depot was underway. On Wednesday, workers had come to the place as usual. A loud sound was heard as the massive heavy iron shed and a section of the roof gave in.
