The Kolkata Police has announced a slew of traffic restrictions in the city for Prime Minister Narendra Modi’s visit to the state for Paschimbanga Divas on June 20 (Saturday) and International Yoga day on June 21 (Sunday).

According to a notification from the Kolkata Commissioner of Police Ajay Nand, movements of all types of goods vehicles across several stretches of the city on these two days.

The traffic regulations would be applicable from 3:30 pm to 11 pm on Saturday along the route covering 11 Furlong Gate, KP Road, Jawaharlal Nehru Island, Dufferin Road, Mayo Road, Netaji Statue, Rani Rashmoni Avenue, and the South Gate of the Lok Bhawan.

In addition to this, movements of all types of goods vehicles would be restricted in the city from midnight to noon on June 21 or until the VVIP movement is over. This would be in addition to the already imposed restrictions on the day.

The restrictions will not be applicable for vehicles carrying LPG Cylinders, CNG, petroleum, oil, lubricants and oxygen, vegetable, medicine, fruits, fish and milk.

Moreover movement and parking of vehicles and carts of all descriptions, including tram cars, shall be regulated or restricted on the roads and approaches on these dates. Heavy goods vehicles will also be restricted to ply in and around Lok Bhawan from 3:30 pm to 10 pm on June 20.

The road from Government Place East and Esplanade Row East Crossing to Old Court House Street and BBD Bag South Crossing will remain fully closed from 5 pm on June 20 to noon on June 21.

Vehicular traffic may also be diverted from any of the arterial roads and feeder roads by the Traffic Police on duty as and when considered necessary, according to movement of the Prime Minister, the Kolkata Police mentioned.
