If all goes as planned, Prime Minister Narendra Modi could give a green signal to at least three railway projects in West Bengal during his two-day visit to the state on 20 and 21 June.
During his visit to West Bengal that comes after about one-and-a-half months of the oath taking ceremony of the new BJP chief minister and his Cabinet colleagues on 9 May, the PM is scheduled to address a mega public meeting at Tarakeswar. The PM’s first visit after the political shift and the new BJP government taking over, 20 June is to be observed with large-scale public meetings and district-level cultural outreach programs.

As a part of the commemorative programme, the PM could give a green signal to few railway projects in the state. As learnt from sources, the PM could flag off a new express train between Santragachi and Khatipura which is to be operated by the South Eastern Railway. “The proposal for the inaugural run has been sent to the Railway Board and the PMO. A nod on the program is yet to be received,” informed official sources in the Railway. “Apart from this, the rail link between Santragachi and Sankrail would be dedicated to the nation and a road over bridge could also be a part of the PM’s program on 20 June,” added the official. The three projects come under the South Eastern railway.
In addition to these, Mr Modi is also likely to lay the foundation stone of the modernisation of a hospital which is a mega project. As learnt from sources, the hospital which comes under the Eastern Railway is to be revamped at the cost of Rs 100 crore.
