A coordinated operation involving multiple security and intelligence agencies has brought a Saharanpur resident under the scanner as investigators probe suspected terror links and possible connections beyond Uttar Pradesh.

The operation was carried out in Nanauta town of Saharanpur district, where teams from the Intelligence Bureau (IB), Uttar Pradesh Anti-Terrorism Squad (ATS), Madhya Pradesh ATS and Meerut Special Task Force (STF) detained a youth identified as Naeem Abdullah for questioning.

Agencies examine digital trail

According to officials, Abdullah had been under surveillance for some time because of alleged suspicious contacts and online activity.

During the operation, security personnel seized his mobile phone and other electronic devices. The gadgets have been sent for forensic examination.

Investigators are attempting to recover and analyse digital data that could help establish the nature of his contacts and activities.

Sources indicated that Abdullah is also being questioned in relation to a case registered in Madhya Pradesh. However, agencies have not disclosed further details about the matter.

Operation conducted under secrecy

The joint raid was conducted under strict confidentiality.

The presence of teams from multiple agencies attracted attention in the locality and led to the gathering of residents near the site of the operation.

Officials restricted video recording during the exercise, citing security concerns. The operation was completed without any disturbance.

Authorities said a detailed investigation is underway, and any official statement will be issued only after facts emerging from the probe are verified.

Arrest in Madhya Pradesh under scanner

The development comes on the same day that the Madhya Pradesh ATS arrested a 35-year-old man from Bhopal in a separate terror-related investigation.

The accused, identified as Mohd Faraz of the Qazi Camp area in Old Bhopal, was taken into custody near Nanhe Bee’s mosque during what officials described as a highly confidential operation.

According to ATS sources, Faraz was allegedly in contact with overseas handlers and had consumed extremist content sent from abroad.

Investigators claimed a PDF containing alleged jihadi literature was recovered from his mobile phone. The agency suspects the material may have originated from Pakistan.

Officials are examining whether Faraz acted independently or had links to a wider network. They are also probing claims that he was considering travel to Afghanistan for alleged specialised training.

Sources further said investigators are looking into reports that he had undergone martial arts training, which they believe may be relevant to the ongoing probe.
