The Communist Party of India (Marxist-Leninist) [CPI(ML)] has expressed deep concern over the continuing rise in inflation across the country and demanded that the Central Government immediately announce special economic relief measures to ease the burden on ordinary people.

The party said that the recent increase of ₹29 in the price of domestic LPG cylinders, the reduction in the number of subsidised cylinders under the Ujjwala Scheme from nine to four, the continued rise in the prices of petrol, diesel and cooking gas, and the increasing cost of food items, including rice, have severely affected household budgets. Escalating inflation, it said, is making life increasingly difficult for the poor, workers, farmers, and lower- and middle-income sections of society.

State Secretary Sudhakar Yadav said on Tuesday that the Central Government has completely failed to control inflation. He alleged that the government is attempting to conceal the crisis arising from the failures of its economic and foreign policies by citing international developments and the Iran conflict.

According to him, government policies appear to be influenced by U.S. pressure and a pro-Israel strategic orientation, while the entire economic burden resulting from these policies is being passed on to the common people.

He further said that just as large corporate houses are provided bailout packages and various forms of financial assistance during times of crisis, a special relief package should also be announced for ordinary citizens suffering from soaring inflation.

The Central Government, he added, should substantially reduce taxes on food items, fuel and other essential consumer goods, and take effective measures to increase the incomes of workers and employees.

The CPI(ML) leader demanded that the government take immediate and concrete steps to control inflation, provide relief to the people, and strengthen purchasing power. Otherwise, he warned, the hardships faced by ordinary citizens would deepen further.
