Karuppu OTT release date: Suriya’s Tamil action drama Karuppu is all ready to begin streaming on Amazon Prime Video from June 12. Prime Video made the official announcement on June 8. The film will be available to viewers in India and worldwide.
What the film is about
Karuppu follows guardian deity Vettai Karuppu, who takes human form as a lawyer and sets out to fight corruption within a system that exploits ordinary people. The story is set against a blend of mythology, courtroom drama, action, and contemporary social themes.

Cast and crew
The film is directed by RJ Balaji and produced by SR Prabhu and SR Prakash Babu under the Dream Warrior Pictures banner. It stars Suriya and Trisha Krishnan in the lead roles. Music is composed by Sai Abhyankkar, with cinematography by GK Vishnu and editing by R Kalaivanan. The supporting cast includes Yogi Babu, Swasika, Natty Subramaniam, and Indrans in key roles.

Theatrical run and box office numbers
Karuppu released worldwide on May 15, 2026. The film had a budget of approximately Rs 130-140 crore and has grossed an estimated Rs 300 crore at the box office. In Tamil Nadu alone, the film crossed Rs 130 crore. Globally, it crossed Rs 200 crore in just eight days. This marks Suriya’s first film to cross the Rs 100 crore mark in his home state, ending a dry spell for Tamil cinema since August 2025.
Release day chaos
The film was initially going to release on May 14 but unexpected production and distribution problems delayed the premiere by a day, resulting in cancelled early morning shows across Tamil Nadu. Fans who had already booked their tickets took to social media to share their reactions. Some had traveled long distances for the shows. However, once the producers sorted out the required payments, the film’s screenings resumed on the morning of May 15.
Languages on OTT
Apart from Tamil, the film will stream in Hindi, Malayalam, and Kannada on Prime Video. The Telugu version will be available under the title Veerabhadrudu.

What the makers said
Producer SR Prabhu commented on the OTT release. He said the film blends mythology, courtroom drama, action, and contemporary social themes, and that Dream Warrior Pictures is confident the film will see the same success on streaming that it had in theatres.
Suriya said he is happy by the response for Karuppu at the box office. He also expressed his excitement about the Prime Video premiere on June 12.
Critical response
Karuppu received mixed to positive reviews from critics upon its theatrical release. Critics and audiences appreciated Suriya’s intense performance, the courtroom sequences, and the fantasy-action backdrop. The film received strong support in Tamil Nadu and overseas markets.
