With the ruling BJP and the principal Opposition Congress have fielded two and one contestants in accordance of their respective vote strength in the state assembly, the stage for the Rajya Sabha biennial polls in Rajasthan on three seats is set for unopposed election.
The ruling BJP has fielded Dr Satish Poonia and Dr Alka Singh Gurjar for election to the Upper House of Parliament, the grand old party has reposed faith in its incumbent MP Neeraj Dangi whose present term in the Council of States is due to complete on June 21 later this month.

While Dangi, a former Rajasthan Youth Congress president, filed his papers for the second term before the Assembly Secretary General ex-officio Returning Officer Bharat Bhushan Sharma in the state assembly premises, the ruling BJP nominees Poonia and Ms Gurjar will file the candidature on Monday, the last day for the nomination.
Dangi reached the assembly complex in the afternoon and submitted three sets of the nomination papers before the RO Sharma. Former Rajasthan Chief Minister Ashok Gehlot, Leader of Opposition(LoP) in state assembly Tika Ram Jully, party state president Govind Singh Dotasra, party whip Rafik Khan and several party MLAs were present.
The elections are being held to fill up 3 seats falling vacant on completion of terms of Union Minister Ravneet Singh Bittu, Rajendra Singh Gehlot (Both BJP) and Dangi (Cong) on completion of their terms in the Upper House on June 21, 2026.
The process of filing papers was opened with issuance of requisite notification on June 1, 2026, however, the first and only nomination is filed today by Dangi, both of the BJP nominees will file papers on Monday. Last date for filing nominations is June 8, scrutiny would be held the next day withdrawals can be made by June 11 and the polling is scheduled on June 18, however, the election is likely to be held unopposed.
As per the party position in the state assembly the ruling BJP with 118 of 200 seats is comfortably in position to retain its both seats even as the principal opposition Congress (67) too, is all set to win back one. The winning candidate requires first priority votes of 51 members.
Presently, the ruling BJP and the rival Congress equally share 10 seats in Rajya Sabha. This equalizer is set to be maintained after the impending elections.
