Three people, including the director of a coaching institute, were arrested on Wednesday in connection with the attack on educator Khan Sir’s coaching centre in Patna, even as police said CCTV footage had not confirmed reports of firing outside the premises.
The arrests came hours after Patna Police released a statement saying the incident appeared to involve stone-pelting and vandalism by a group of 15 to 20 people allegedly linked to another coaching institute. The clarification has added a fresh twist to the case, which was initially reported as a firing incident that left a security guard injured and sparked protests by students.

All three accused were produced before a court on Wednesday and were subsequently sent to judicial custody.
CCTV footage shows vandalism, not firing: Police
In a statement issued around 2.50 am on Wednesday, Patna Police said information was received at around 10.10 pm on Tuesday regarding stone-pelting and vandalism at Khan Global Studies under the Kadamkuan police station area.
Police said teams reached the spot immediately and began examining the incident.
According to the statement, questioning of local residents and scrutiny of CCTV footage revealed that 15 to 20 individuals allegedly associated with Gyan Bindu Coaching Institute were involved in the attack.
“CCTV footage did not confirm any firing,” Patna Police said, adding that raids were underway to arrest those involved and that further legal action would follow.
Probe widens, more arrests likely
Officials said investigators are examining the broader conspiracy behind the attack, including its motive and the possible involvement of additional suspects.
Police indicated that further arrests could be made as the investigation progresses.
Earlier, police had said the injured security guard’s statement, along with statements from local residents, was being recorded as part of the probe.
Students gather outside institute
A large crowd of students assembled outside Khan Sir’s coaching institute near Musallahpur Haat on Wednesday morning amid heightened security in the area.
Many students raised slogans demanding action against those responsible for the attack.
“We want justice. We want security,” a student told ANI outside the institute.
The tension followed Tuesday night’s incident, which led to the deployment of senior police officers, including the Patna SSP and SP, along with multiple police teams.
Police said the investigation remains underway and all angles are being examined.
