Chief Minister Rekha Gupta on Sunday visited the site of the building collapse in Saidulajab, South Delhi, and reviewed the ongoing relief and rescue operations. She ordered strict action against unauthorized buildings and directed that action be taken against all officials found responsible in the concerned departments.

The Chief Minister directed officials to ensure that there is no laxity in the rescue efforts and that every potentially trapped person is searched for with the utmost seriousness and sensitivity.

A criminal case has been registered at Mehrauli Police Station in connection with the incident, following the Chief Minister’s instructions, and prompt action has been initiated.

A magisterial inquiry has been ordered under the supervision of the District Magistrate (DM), South District. Additionally, officials have been directed to inspect dilapidated and hazardous buildings in the vicinity and take strict action wherever necessary.

Teams from the National Disaster Response Force (NDRF), Delhi Fire Services (DFS), Delhi Police, Delhi District Disaster Management Authority (DDMA), Municipal Corporation of Delhi (MCD), CATS Ambulance Service, and Civil Defence have been carrying out rescue operations on a war footing.

Every possible effort is being made to safely rescue those trapped and provide immediate assistance to the affected families.

The situation is being continuously monitored, and all concerned agencies are working in close coordination. The Chief Minister stated that the safety and well-being of every citizen remain the government’s highest priority.

According to the concerned department, eight injured persons have been rescued, while one person has reportedly died in the incident. Rescue operations were still underway at the time of filing this report.

The incident occurred on Saturday. The multi-storey building housed several private offices and commercial establishments.
