Disgruntled over what she described as her increasing marginalisation within the party, Congress MP S Jothimani, who has continued to strike a discordant note, has alleged massive corruption and irregularities in the distribution of party tickets during the Assembly elections.
“Constituencies were sought and allocated to suit candidates who had already been selected. Under the guise of ‘surveys’, large-scale corruption has reportedly taken place,” she wrote on X, demanding a proper investigation.

“Senior party workers who have served the party for decades, as well as individuals with genuine winning prospects, were completely sidelined, while many newcomers with little or no electoral prospects were given opportunities after constituencies were specifically negotiated for them,” the two-time MP from Karur reiterated. She added, “Some of those who were given the opportunity to contest elections either left the party or became inactive within days after the election.”

“Who gave these individuals opportunities? On what basis were they selected? What action has been taken against those responsible for these mistakes?” she asked, making it clear that an inquiry was necessary rather than the formation of a committee, which, according to her, would merely serve to protect the wrongdoers.
She maintained that only the AICC could investigate the allegations, since the committee involved in seat allocation was headed by Tamil Nadu in-charge Girish Chodankar. She also called for strict action against those responsible for the irregularities so that the confidence of party workers could be restored and the party strengthened.
Earlier, even as the Congress defended rebel AIADMK legislators who resigned from their posts and joined the ruling Tamilaga Vettri Kazhagam (TVK), Jothimani had criticised the move as horse-trading. Despite the Congress being a constituent of the Vijay-led ministry, she chose to voice a dissenting opinion.
