As ‘Operation Sheruwali’ entered its sixth day on Thursday, fierce gunfire and heavy shelling rocked the dense Dorimal Ghambir Muglan forests of Rajouri, where security forces have launched an intensified manhunt to track down the Pakistani terrorists believed to be hiding in cave-like hideouts deep inside the forest belt. Massive reinforcements, drones, helicopters and sniffer dogs have been deployed to tighten the cordon and prevent any escape routes.

Northern Army Commander Lieutenant General Pratik Sharma reviewed the ongoing anti-terrorist operation and discussed the operational dynamics and inter-agency synergy during his visit to the area on Wednesday. The Army commander was accompanied by IGP (Jammu) BS Tuti and officers of the Intelligence Bureau (IB).

Local reports have indicated heavy gunfire and explosions in the forest region during the ongoing operation. Authorities, however, have not officially confirmed the outcome of the latest assault, and live operational details remain restricted due to security concerns.

The Army Commander interacted with representatives of local Indian Army formations, JKP, IB, CRPF and other stakeholders to review the evolving operational dynamics and strengthen inter-agency synergy. He also engaged with troops deployed in the area and commended their relentless resolve, high morale and steadfast commitment while operating in a demanding environment.

Emphasising mission focus and operational excellence, the Army Commander exhorted all teams to pursue the objective with professional acumen, precision and a shared sense of purpose.

Security forces are also tracking blood stains believed to have been left behind by the fleeing terrorists after a hideout was destroyed during an assault carried out on Monday, officials said.

According to unconfirmed reports, two to three Pakistani terrorists, including a commander, are believed to be hiding in the area.
