Trinamool Congress MP Kakoli Ghosh Dastidar on Thursday, May 28, filed a complaint against Kalyan Banerjee to Lok Sabha Speaker Om Birla, accusing her party colleague of verbally abusing her inside the Parliament as well as misogynistic behaviour towards women parliamentarians – a charge Banerjee categorically denied.

This comes after Dastidar officially tendered her resignation from all the organisational posts in the Mamata Banerjee-led party with immediate effect. Earlier, the MP from Barasat in the North 24 Parganas district had sent her resignation letter to the party’s state president Subrata Bakshi.

In her letter to the Lok Sabha Speaker, she has sought permission to formally register the complaint against Banerjee and demanded strict action against him.

“I seek your permission to lodge a formal complaint to you for redressal against Lok Sabha Member of AITC Kalyan Banerjee, who has repeatedly verbally abused me inside the Lok Sabha. This misogyny has been against many lady members and needs to be punished,” she wrote.

This comes amid deepening faultlines within the Trinamool Congress after suffering a major setback in the recently-concluded 2026 Assembly elections in West Bengal, which saw the BJP emerging victorious and marking an end to Mamata Banerjee-led TMC government’s 15-year rule. After the state elections, public display of dissent and internal unease has been increasingly spilling into the open.

Notably, Dastidar continues to remain an MP of Barasat, which she won on a TMC ticket.

Kalyan Banerjee denies allegations

Reacting to Dastidar’s letter to Om Birla, Kalyan Banerjee questioned why she did not complained about this immediately.

“After something happens on the floor, the Speaker must be informed immediately, that is the rule. Any incident must be reported to the Speaker without delay. As for the allegations being made, the question is who said what and when. The problem lies in their intentions. It seems they are acting with a motive, which raises my doubts,” he said.
