Youth can play a transformative role in building a healthier, safer, and more inclusive society by promoting scientific temper and open conversations around menstruation and women’s health, speakers said at the “Let’s Talk Periods” programme organised at the World Skill Center (WSC), Bhubaneswar.
The awareness programme was organised by IFI Foundation around Menstrual Hygiene Day 2026 under the global theme of building a period-friendly world. WSC joined as Academic Partner, while Swasthya Plus Network and OdishaLIVE served as Outreach Partners. aml Communications and Odisha Menstrual Health & Hygiene Alliance supported the initiative as Communication and Ecosystem Partners respectively.

Hundreds of students, faculty members and trainers participated in the programme.
Addressing the gathering, Pinaki Patnaik, Additional Secretary of the Skill Development & Technical Education Department and COO of WSC, said menstruation is a natural biological process, yet stigma and misinformation continue to affect the dignity, health and opportunities of women and girls.
He stressed that awareness, education and empathetic dialogue are essential to building a more informed and compassionate society.
The programme began with a welcome address by Dr. Subhanga Kishore Das. Renowned obstetrician and gynaecologist Dr. Chinmayee Kar, who attended as technical speaker, spoke on menstrual hygiene, scientific understanding of menstruation and the need to eliminate myths surrounding periods.
An informational brochure on menstrual awareness was unveiled by IFI Foundation on the occasion. A thematic audio-visual capsule explaining menstruation, hygiene management and common menstrual health concerns was also screened.
Pranati Parida, Co-Chair of IFI Foundation and Campaign Chair, said menstruation should never become a barrier to a girl’s education, aspirations or success.
Citing global data, she said more than 1.8 billion women menstruate every month and, on average, a woman spends nearly seven years of her life menstruating. She reiterated that the campaign aims to ensure dignity, safety, confidence and equal opportunities for every girl and woman.
An interactive question-and-answer session was also held, during which Dr. Chinmayee Kar addressed students’ queries related to menstrual hygiene, nutrition, myths and emotional wellbeing during periods.
Among others present were Nilambar Rath, Co-Chair of IFI Foundation, and senior officials of the institution. The vote of thanks was delivered by Sailesh Mishra, Deputy Director (Admin), WSC.
IFI Foundation has been conducting large-scale advocacy campaigns over the past four years to promote menstrual health awareness and encourage inclusive public dialogue.
