‘Fearless, nothing to hide’: Robert Vadra gets bail in Shikohpur land deal case
Robert Vadra secured bail from a Delhi court in the Shikohpur land deal case while accusing the ED of acting under government pressure during the ongoing probe.
All India Mahila Congress President Alka Lamba has been convicted by the Rouse Avenue Court in connection with the protest at Jantar Mantar demanding the implementation of women’s reservation ahead of the 2024 Lok Sabha elections.
The protest took place on July 29, 2024 and was led by the Mahila Congress at Jantar Mantar.

The Delhi court held Lamba guilty in the criminal case arising out of the demonstration, where protesters demanded the implementation of women’s quota and attempted to march towards Parliament, IANS reported.

It will next hear arguments on the quantum of sentence on June 5.
“This is exactly what was expected. The incident is from July 2024, during the Monsoon Session. I, along with my sisters, was at Jantar Mantar exercising our constitutional and democratic rights, protesting and demanding the implementation of women’s reservation and better safety for women. At that time, the police, either under pressure or to advance their position, filed an FIR against me. I was charge-sheeted in 2024, and from 2024 to 2025, and then into 2026, I have been attending court hearings for the same case,” Lamba said.
She added, “Today I have been informed that I have been convicted and found guilty. My ‘crime’ was that I had the courage to raise my voice at Jantar Mantar for women’s safety and women’s reservation. According to them, this is a very big offence against me. I have been declared guilty, and my sentence will be pronounced on June 5.”

Earlier, Delhi Police registered an FIR alleging that prohibitory orders under Section 163 of the Bharatiya Nagarik Suraksha Sanhita (BNSS) were in place in the Parliament Street sub-division at the time of the protest. Also, Jantar Mantar was an exempted area for demonstrations.
As per the prosecution, the Congress leader was the main speaker at the protest. She along with other demonstrators is said to have moved beyond the permitted protest site towards Tolstoy Road and attempted to march towards Parliament, even after getting repeated warnings by police officials.
The trial court had observed that video footage showed that the accused allegedly pushed police personnel and instigated protesters to jump barricades. Ultimately, they led demonstrators beyond the permissible protest zone.
It noted that a prima facie case was made out against the Congress leader under Sections 132, 221, 223(a) and 285 of the Bharatiya Nyaya Sanhita (BNS).
In December last year, the court rejected Lamba’s plea for discharge.
Later on, her revision plea challenging the framing of charges was dismissed by the Rouse Avenue Court in February.
Meanwhile, the Delhi High Court is separately hearing the Congress leader’s plea seeking quashing of the FIR and chargesheet.
A Bench of Justice Swarana Kanta Sharma had issued notice to the Delhi Police on Lamba’s plea and sought its response. It further listing the matter for hearing on September 3.
