The Bar Council of India (BCI) on Friday suspended advocate Samarth Singh from legal practice with immediate effect over allegations linked to the death of his wife, Twisha Sharma.

Twisha was found dead at his matrimonial home in Bhopal on May 12. Her family alleged that she was being subjected to dowry harassment by husband Samarth Singh and mother-in-law Giribala Singh, a retired judge.

Twisha’s mother-in-law has dismissed the allegations, saying she was having mental health issues and was on medication.

However, Twisha’s father Navnidhi Sharma, dismissed the claims, alleging that attempts are being made to protect Samarth Singh and his mother.

He also refused to accept her body and demanded second post-mortem by a team of doctors from AIIMS Jammu or Delhi.

MP High Court orders second autopsy

Earlier in the day, the Madhya Pradesh High Court accepted the plea filed Twisha’s father and ordered second autopsy by a team of doctors from AIIMS Delhi.

During the hearing, senior advocate Mringendra Singh, who appeared on behalf of Twisha’s husband, opposed the second post-mortem plea, saying it would be an insult to the health services of the state.

However, Solicitor General Tushar Mehta, appearing for the prosecution, said that the “accused has no right to oppose” and that the matter is between the court and the state.

Twisha’s husband taken in police custody

Meanwhile Samarth Singh, the absconding husband of Twisha Sharma, has been taken into custody by Bhopal police. He was absconding and evading police for 10 days.

The development came shortly after he arrived at the Jabalpur court to surrender.

Earlier today, he had withdrawn his anticipatory bail plea filed before the Madhya Pradesh High Court.
