Even as Bhopal Police continue their search for Samarth Singh in connection with the death of actress and former model Twisha Sharma, the absconding accused has now approached the Madhya Pradesh High Court seeking interim bail.

Samarth Singh filed the application before the Jabalpur Bench of the Madhya Pradesh High Court on Thursday through his counsel. The plea, listed as Samarth Singh vs The State Government of Madhya Pradesh, is currently shown as pending on the High Court website, with no order passed so far.

The latest move comes days after a Bhopal district court rejected Singh’s earlier plea for interim bail. Police teams have since intensified efforts to trace him, with authorities alleging that he has remained untraceable since his wife Twisha Sharma’s death earlier this month.

Bhopal Police raise reward to Rs 30,000

Bhopal Police have now increased the reward for information leading to Singh’s arrest from Rs 10,000 to Rs 30,000. A lookout circular has also been issued to prevent him from leaving the country.

Speaking on the investigation, Bhopal Police Commissioner Sanjay Kumar said multiple teams are working on the case.

“We have increased the reward amount to Rs 30,000, and a lookout circular has also been issued. We are making every effort to make the arrest as soon as possible,” he said.

“We have formed six teams. They are working on different areas. We will investigate whatever material is available for investigation. If anyone has any document or video, they can provide it to the police,” the commissioner added.

Twisha Sharma was found dead under suspicious circumstances at her matrimonial home in Bhopal on May 12. Her family has accused Samarth Singh and his mother of dowry harassment and cruelty.

Post-mortem pointed to suicide by hanging

According to the post-mortem examination conducted at AIIMS Bhopal, the cause of death was found to be suicide. The report reportedly noted marks on Twisha’s neck consistent with hanging using a belt.

Meanwhile, Samarth Singh’s mother, Giribala Singh, who is also named as a co-accused in the case, was granted interim bail by a Bhopal district court earlier.

The victim’s family has now decided to challenge that relief before the High Court.

Advocate Ankur Pandey, appearing for Twisha Sharma’s family, told IANS that a petition against the interim bail granted to Giribala Singh would soon be filed before the Jabalpur Bench.

Giribala Singh retired as Principal District Judge in Bhopal in February 2023 and is currently serving as Chairperson of the District Consumer Disputes Redressal Commission, Bhopal-2.

Separately, the Madhya Pradesh government has also ordered an inquiry against her under the Consumer Protection Rules, 2020.
