The investigation into the shocking death of Deepika Nagar in Greater Noida intensified on Wednesday after police arrested her mother-in-law, Poonam, in connection with the alleged dowry harassment case that has triggered outrage across Uttar Pradesh. The arrest came amid disturbing revelations from the post-mortem report, which pointed to multiple serious injuries, internal bleeding and signs of severe physical trauma before Deepika’s death.
The case has drawn significant public attention due to allegations made by the victim’s family that Deepika was repeatedly subjected to mental and physical torture over dowry demands after her marriage.

According to officials, Deepika Nagar’s mother-in-law, Poonam, was detained on Wednesday, becoming the second person arrested during the day in the ongoing investigation.

Earlier, police had arrested Vinod, the uncle of Deepika’s husband Hrithik. The other accused already in custody include Hrithik and his father Manoj.

Police officials said teams are continuing raids to trace and apprehend other individuals allegedly linked to the case.
The post-mortem findings have added a grim dimension to the case, revealing both external and internal injuries on Deepika Nagar’s body.
According to details emerging from the report, Deepika suffered a bone-deep wound along with rupture of the spleen and internal bleeding. Medical findings also indicated hematoma conditions in parts of the brain, suggesting severe trauma before her death.
External injuries were reportedly found on multiple parts of the body, raising serious questions surrounding the circumstances leading to her death.
Deepika Nagar’s family alleged that substantial dowry was given during her marriage to Hrithik nearly 14 months ago.
According to the family, around Rs 1 crore was spent on the wedding, including cash, jewellery and a Fortuner car. However, they alleged that the demands from the in-laws continued even after the marriage.
Family members claimed the accused were allegedly pressuring Deepika for an SUV and an additional Rs 50 lakh in cash and that she was repeatedly harassed over these demands.
The case has once again brought focus on rising incidents of dowry-related violence and the pressure faced by women inside marital homes despite stringent legal provisions against dowry harassment.
