POCSO case: Bandi Sanjay Kumar’s son approaches Telangana High Court for bail

Bandi Bhagirath, son of Union Minister of State for Home Affairs Bandi Sanjay Kumar, has approached the Telangana High Court for interim bail in connection with the POCSO case against him.

According to IANS, Bhagirath’s plea has been filed before the Vacation Bench, amid the ongoing summer holiday of the High Court. The matter is all set to be heard on May 14.

Notably, a case was filed against Bandi Bhagirath on May 8 at the Pet Basheerabad Police Station of Cyberabad Commissionerate under Protection Of Children from Sexual Offences (POCSO) Act. The matter was related to he alleged sexual assault on a 17-year-old girl.

The police registered a case under Section 11 r/w 12 of POCSO Act as well as sections 74 and 75 of the Bharatiya Nyaya Sanhita (BNS) after receiving a complaint from the victim’s mother.

This happened after Bhagirath filed a complaint against the girl and her parents in Karimnagar II Town Police Station. It was claimed that they tried to honey trap him and asked for ₹5 crore to not lodge a police complaint.

At that time, the case was registered against the girl and her parents under multiple Sections of the BNS for extortion, criminal intimidation, criminal conspiracy and common intention.

Bandi Sanjay Kumar has denied the allegations against his son and claimed that political rivals in the state were making efforts to tarnish his image by making false allegations.

However, Chief Minister A. Revanth Reddy has asked the Director General of Police, CV Anand, to immediately initiate an investigation into the matter, IANS reported.

The senior police official has been told to constitute special teams for a comprehensive investigation into the matter of the alleged sexual assault on the minor girl. The Chief Minister has even asked why there was a delay in taking action even when the complaint was lodged on May 8.

Post his direction, Cyberabad Police Commissioner asked Deputy Commissioner of Police Ritiraj to personally supervise the case.
