Buoyed by its performance in West Bengal and Assam, the Bharatiya Janata Party’s Telangana unit on Monday declared the state as its next big political target, signalling an aggressive push ahead of the next Assembly elections.

The results, which saw the BJP wrest West Bengal from the Trinamool Congress and retain Assam, have energised the party’s cadre in Telangana, with leaders framing the outcome as a sign of shifting voter sentiment nationwide.

‘Saffron flag will fly high in Telangana’

Leader of the BJP in the Telangana Assembly, Alleti Maheshwar Reddy, expressed confidence that the party’s momentum would carry into the state.

“The BJP is capturing one state after the other. Whenever elections are held in Telangana, the saffron flag will fly high,” he told reporters.

He said public dissatisfaction with both the Bharat Rashtra Samithi and the Congress could translate into support for the BJP, adding that Prime Minister Narendra Modi’s scheduled visit to Telangana on May 10 was an indication of the party’s intent to form the next government in the state.

According to him, people are looking for a “double-engine government” to accelerate development.

State leadership sees national trend favouring BJP

Telangana BJP president N Ramchander Rao congratulated voters in Bengal and said the results reflected growing trust in BJP governance.

“Wherever BJP governments are in power in the country, the people are once again entrusting power to the BJP. This is because the BJP is not a family party. Governance infused with democratic values, corruption-free administration, and people-centric development are the BJP’s goals,” he said.

He added that the outcome showed voters rejecting Congress and its allies, and voiced confidence that the BJP would “storm to power” in Telangana in the next elections.

Rao also linked the results to broader political messaging, saying parties engaging in divisive politics had been “given a fitting lesson,” and expressed hope that Telangana voters would respond similarly.

PM Modi’s Hyderabad visit and mega rally preparations

Highlighting the party’s mobilisation plans, Rao said Prime Minister Modi’s visit to Hyderabad on May 10 would be a key moment. BJP leaders have already performed the ground-breaking ceremony for a public meeting at Secunderabad Parade Grounds, where over two lakh people are expected to attend.

He urged people across Telangana to turn up in large numbers and said the Centre’s policies and governance under Modi were driving visible changes across the country.

Union minister targets opposition over ‘divisive politics’

Union Minister of State for Home Affairs Bandi Sanjay Kumar said the election results were a “befitting reply” to Telangana Chief Minister A Revanth Reddy and Tamil Nadu Chief Minister MK Stalin.

Speaking in Karimnagar, he accused opposition leaders of attempting to divide people on regional lines and said the BJP would continue expanding its footprint across states.

Sanjay also called on the public to make the Prime Minister’s Hyderabad meeting a success, adding that the Centre was committed to Telangana’s development and that projects worth Rs 7,823 crore would be dedicated to the state during the visit.
