Amid ongoing re-polling at 15 polling booths under two Assembly constituencies in West Bengal, voting at a polling booth under Diamond Harbour seat was disrupted on Saturday morning after the Electronic Voting Machine (EVM) developed a technical fault.
The incident was reported at booth number 243 in Ward number 11 of the Raynagar area under Diamond Harbour Assembly constituency.

According to sources, the malfunction was detected at around 8 a.m., following which the polling process was temporarily suspended. The disruption led to inconvenience for voters, many of whom had been waiting in queues since early morning.

Election Commission officials had rushed to the booth after receiving information about the glitch. As per sources in the Commission, efforts were underway to replace the defective EVM and restore normal polling operations at the earliest.
36.99% voter turnout till 11 am
As per the official data from the Election Commission, 36.99 per cent voter turnout has been registered across the two Assembly constituencies till 11 a.m. on Saturday.
The voter turnout in Magrahat Paschim stood at 38.2 per cent, while it was 35.92 per cent in Diamond Harbour.
Voting for the West Bengal Assembly elections 2026 was held across two phases on April 23 and April 29. In the first phase, polling was held in 152 Assembly constituencies, while voting took place in the remaining 142 Assembly constituencies in the second phase.
The 2026 Assembly elections are being held under blanket security coverage of central forces assisted by personnel from the state police forces in the state.
After the completion of the re-polling at 15 polling booths under two Assembly constituencies in South 24 Parganas district on Saturday, the counting of votes will be done on May 4.
